NOTE TEMPORARY NEW LOCATION
Wednesday, March 11 Luncheon at Holiday Inn (Routes 306 & 2) in Mentor: “Copyright Law: What You Need to Know to Be Safe”
Members: please come prepared to have your photo taken for our directory at 11:30 prior to the luncheon! Photographer Bob Barbian is kindly volunteering his services.
Mentor attorney Carly Boyd will discuss trademarks and copyrights, with the focus on the use of intellectual property in social media and marketing.
She will review the basics of what is protected by both trademark and copyright law and discuss the fair use practices of copyright. The goal is for you to feel confident in the proper use of intellectual property in your everyday work.
Ms. Boyd practices in many different areas of the law including trademarks, copyrights, contract drafting, business law, bankruptcy law and family law.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, March 11 from 11:45-1 at a temporary new location at Holiday Inn, 7701 Reynolds Road (Route 306 & 2), Mentor. (Since Dino’s has closed, we are trying out new locations.) Networking starts at 11:45am; lunch and program is from 12 noon to 1pm.
Reservations MUST be made by noon on Monday, March 9. Register online or by contacting Shirley at email@example.com. Please note that PayPal is not required to make a payment for a reservation.
From the President
The survey results are in and the results show that, most importantly, members want valuable topics from qualified speakers.
Most prefer a central Mentor location for the lunch meetings. Cost of full lunch going to $20 does not seem to be a problem. (Note the March meeting will be $20.)
Networking is still a strong part of our meetings so come early and interact with possible clients, learn from colleagues or just share some marketing trends. Make the most of your investment as a Lake Communicators member.
You should have received an email March 3 asking for your biography – or to confirm current information – for the next Lake Communicators directory. Please make every effort to keep to our Friday, March 6 deadline with your information. New portrait photos will be taken at the March lunch meeting.
This next directory will have more about our organization, members and results of last year’s APEX Awards.

How can you maximize no-cost positive marketing exposure strategies for yourself, your business or your clients?
That’s where one of my favorite topics, harnessing the Power of the Pro Bono, comes into play. Why volunteer at all?
Whether you’re marketing the products or services of your employer or your own business or just simply enhancing your image and value to the people you work for and with, the Power of the Pro Bono can be a simple, quick and no-cost self-marketing strategy. Effectively done, it can help accomplish several important goals for you. Read more…
