| September meeting recap... |
Laura Noll, Director of Noll Research, spoke on the topic of market research at the September luncheon meeting. There are two types of research: primary and secondary or secondhand.
Primary research involves online questionnaires, telephone and mail interviews, and focus groups. Laura also informed us that the FAX is back, and as of this past summer, this method may be used.
Secondary research, where you call around for off the shelf reports, may be obtained through
colleges, business to business trade association publications, government libraries and Penton Media.
The cost to do market research can be prohibitive, ranging from $500 - $5000. The best forecasting is for a period of 3 years, no more. The most effective means of business-to-business research is via e-mail (10-15% rate of return), fax (4-5%) and mail (1-2%). There is a network of 8 million researchers. | Adelphia Tour made for great viewing |
On June 15th, 20 members boarded a Laketran bus for our fist field trip of the year. The destination: Adelphia Studios in downtown Cleveland. The group learned about the importance of local cable programming, received a tour of the playback and editing suites and watched a live broadcast of "Your Community."
Lake Communicators member and professional photographer, Bob Barbian, captured the event on film. Everyone agreed it was an interesting and worthwhile session. Our thanks to Laketran for providing the courtesy transportation. |
