What is it like to be a press agent for major Broadway shows? Traveling to major cities across America? Promoting the stars of the shows?
Anita Dloniak of Anita Dloniak and Assoc., will give the inside scoop about what it’s like to be a press agent at the Lake Communicators monthly luncheon
Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Comfort Inn &
Conference Center, 7701 Reynolds Road in Mentor from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As a press agent, Dloniak travels to major U.S. cities making
preparations and arrangements in local theatres for marketing, publicity and promotions prior to the opening of hit Broadway shows such as current Broadway hits “Spamalot,” “Peter Pan,” “Carousel” and “Guys and Dolls.”
She also has handled the long-running engagement of “ Chicago” at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. She’s worked with numerous Broadway and movie stars
including Brooke Shields, Tony Curtis, Richard Chamberlain, Marilu Henner and Cathy Rigby, among others.
“I’ve always had a passion for the theatre,” Dloniak said. “Being a press agent is a lot of hard work, but traveling across the country |
|
and promoting the Broadway shows I love makes the work I do much more enjoyable.”
A life-long Clevelander, the past 18 years have found Dloniak and her associates representing major Broadway tours, including revivals and new works. Though she still lives and works in Cleveland, being a press agent requires her to travel often.
“Imagine knowing the Broadway stars and marketing hit Broadway shows – it must be so exciting,” said Tom Ruffner, Lake Communicators president. “I can hardly wait to hear what goes on behind the scenes.”
Prior to her extensive tour schedule, Dloniak was general manager of the Theatre League of Cleveland Inc., which was owned by Samuel J. L’Hommedieu. The promotion company presented touring Broadway shows at various venues in Cleveland.
RSVP by Nov. 3. E-mail Shirley Wolfe at wolfeshirley@yahoo.com or call Diana Lewis at 440-255-8932. Guests are always welcome. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. |
