November 9th Lunch Meeting
Crisis Communications: Managing the Media
|
IN THIS ISSUE
|
|
If you are responsible for handling a crisis, or if
you’ve ever been interviewed by a newspaper or
television reporter and were more than slightly
disappointed by the resulting story, then you won't
want to miss the November meeting. “Bruce
Hennes is both a crisis communication practitioner
as well as a professional lecturer, so
This lunch meeting is from 11:30-1:30.
Lunch will be served promptly at 11:45. |
his presentation is not only animated and engaging, it’s also
extremely helpful,” said Kathie Pohl, who
attended a similar presentation last January with
fellow member, Barb Snow.
Bruce Hennes is president of Hennes Communications,
a crisis communications, media training,
media relations and litigation communications firm
based in Cleveland. He counts among his current
and former clients businesses such as The
Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District,
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority,
Avery-Dennison, NASA, Forest City Enterprises,
The Westfield Group, and The Summit County
Children’s Bureau.
Hennes is a Graduate Lecturer in Advanced
Communications/Media Relations for Public
Officials in the Levin College of Urban Affairs at
Cleveland State University. He also is a member of
the board of The Press Club of Cleveland and a |
|
member of the Public Relations Society of America
and frequently speaks before bar and trade
associations across the United States.
Attendees will receive handouts including tips on
how to better prepare for the reporter’s interview
and checklists that can be used prior to consenting
to the interview. Video clips of case histories also
will be shown.
With so much material to review, this will
be a 90-minute presentation. Plan on
arriving at 11:30 to register. Lunch will be
served beginning at 11:45, and Bruce’s
presentation will begin at noon, ending promptly at
1:30 p.m.
This special presentation is geared towards
anyone with limited experience facing the press;
however, even seasoned practitioners will find
Bruce’s review of the basics to be of value.
Reservations are due by Friday, November 4 by
calling Diana Lewis at (440) 255-8932 or emailing
Shirley Wolfe at wolfeshirley@yahoo.com.

| Holiday party replaces regular December meeting |
The holidays are approaching and so we have
decided to throw a party! Rather than hold a
regular lunch meeting in December, the funloving
Membership Committee has arranged a
special Holiday After Hours for Wednesday,
December 14th. Guests are welcome.
Our destination is The Cabin on Lakeshore
Boulevard in Willowick from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $10 and applies to members and
nonmembers. This nominal fee will provide a
bounty of delicious hors d’oeuvres. All beverages |
|
will be on your own. There will also be door
prizes.
So, come to relax after work and mingle ... you
also might invite your marketing friends and
business associates and help increase membership.
Who knows? Maybe there will even be a
prize to the member who brings in the most new
members. (Are you listening Dick Fraser?)
Reservations are required by December 9th by
calling Diana Lewis at 255-8932 or emailing
Shirley Wolfe at wolfeshirley@yahoo.com. |

| Lake County Apex Awards display super stuff! |
The 2005 Lake County Apex Awards were presented Oct. 12 at the Fine Arts Association in Willoughby. Local marketing professionals answered the call for entries with their best work in tune with this year's theme, "Show Us Your Super Stuff."
Creative people, including graphic artists, website designers, photographers and copywriters showed up in their hightly polished boots and freshly dry-cleaned capes (or best business attire), for the awards ceremony.
Apex Awards were given in 15 categories, including illustration, photography, copywriting, publicity and special events, publications and collateral materials.
This is the first year Lake Communicators presented The News-Herald Public Information Award to honor the best individual, corporate or not-for-profit agency who produced a single piece or entire campaign with public information as its sole objective. Winners of this first-time award are Lake Metroparks and McKinney Advertising & Public Relations.
College and high school students in their junior or senior year were invited to submit entries free. Student awards were judged based on the merits of amateur efforts. Ashland University student Maria Iafelice of Wickliffe cam in first place for her graphic design piece titled "90,000."
Lake Communicators, an organization formed in 1981 for those in the advertising, publishing, graphic design, photography and public relations fields, sponsor the Apex Awards. Co-sponsors were the Fine Arts Association, Villa Beach Communications, Lakeland Community College, Xpedx Paper & Graphics, Duke Printing Mailing Solutions, the Lake County Business Journal, Thom Zahler Art Studios, The News-Herald and Jones Printing Services, Inc. Promotional art was created by Thom Zahler.
