With online communications becoming increasingly mainstream and developing faster than ever, many have lost their way on the best methods to use.
Thomas Mulready, creator of CoolCleveland.com, will show, not tell, the newest and most effective methods for promoting your events online at the Lake Communicators luncheon Wednesday, June 13. This Lake Communicators luncheon will be held at a new location: Dino’s Restaurant and Banquet Center, 4145 State Route 306, Willoughby from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Mulready will show how easy it is to record and post podcasts and vodcasts (video), manage a blog and utilize e-mail to generate excitement for your upcoming event.
He has lead the development of a multi-media network dedicated to economic development and the promotion of arts, culture and technology also known as CoolCleveland.com.
The CoolCleveland e-newsletter is sent weekly to tens of thousands of people around the country with news, events, podcasts, videocasts, commentary, letters and links to issues of vital importance to revisioning Cleveland for the 21st Century. Also, the Society of Professional Journalists recently awarded the site “Best in Ohio.”
Mulready has a history of being strongly tied to the arts and culture community. He currently performs as a band member of Cats on Holiday

(one of many groups he has performed with) and regularly participates as a multi-mediaperformance artist.
His connection to the arts and culture of Cleveland inspired him to become a founding director of Performance Art Festival & Archives and cofounder/codirector of the Ingenuity Festival of Art and Technology in Cleveland.
In addition, he has served as a guest lecturer and panelist at various universities and arts organizations worldwide and is the recipient of numerous awards and grants.
Mulready was twice named one of the 100 most powerful businessmen in Northeast Ohio by Inside Business magazine and was recently named the first-ever recipient of the Communicator of the Year ward by the International Association of Business Communicators.
As principal of MulreadyGROUP, he manages a business that designs, develops and delivers customized programs and seminars in the areas of management, marketing, technology and strategy, and he has delivered seminars and training sessions for business and arts on technology and strategic issues.

The 2007 Lake County APEX Awards Committee is planning a few changes for this year’s Apex …
The Apex Awards will be held in conjunction with the Lake County Business Expo Nov 8. The awards program will also be held as a luncheon event during the Business Expo.
In addition to raising awareness and membership of our great organization, the winning entries will be exhibited during the Business Expo and in the Lakeland Community College gallery. |

The competition is open to those who live and/or work in Lake County, the 2007 APEXhibition will also be re-opened to high school and college students. A scholarship prize will be going to the student entry judged “best of show.”

Kathie Purmal, chair of the Lake Communicators student scholarship committee, and committee members Cait Anastis and Dick Fraser, have chosen three scholarship recipients for 2007.
Winners Brittany L. Potter of Harvey High School in Painesville, and Leah Wodoslowsky and Lindsay Oliver, both from Mentor High School, will each receive $500 scholarships.
Leah Wodoslowsky plans to attend Baldwin-Wallace College. She hopes to pursue a career as a television news producer.
Lindsay Oliver plans to major in broadcast journalism at the University of Miami.
Brittany Potter will be attending Ashland University. She aspires to a career in newspaper journalism. |

Lake Communicators offer these scholarships each year to assist the organization in furthering the mission of helping interested youth in obtaining training and advanced education in the visual and written communication fields.
Kathie Purmal will chair the APEX and scholastic scholarship programs for this coming year.

Lake Communicators visited the Lake County Emergency Operations Center in Kirtland last month for a presentation by Jessie Baginski, Laketran’s liaison to the Emergency Management Agency; and Ray Somich, local Emergency Planning Committee Board member, to learn about how prepared we are as a county for a major catasrophe.
EMA Director Larry Greene and LEPC Chairman Deputy Chief Tom Talcott, discussed communications efforts already in place between local government and community organizations. Tom Ruffner, mayor of Wickliffe, also is a member of the committee.
At the meeting, members brainstormed a marketing communications program to express awareness for more personal preparedness and responsibility by the residents.
Attendees participated in the initial brainstorming to name and develop the campaign. Members of Lake Communicators will be developing the campaign over the next year or so.

Monthly Meetings
Membership meetings are held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month except July at the Comfort Inn & Conference Center, 7701 Reynolds Road (Route 306), just south of Route 2 and include networking and a half-hour program. There are no meetings in July. Guests are always welcome.
Advance reservations are required by replying to Shirley Wolfe's e-mail at wolfeshirley@yahoo.com or by calling Diana Lewis at 440-255-8932 by the Friday prior to the meeting. You may send a substitute; no-shows will be billed. Members $13, guests $15.
