If your organization is not meeting its potential in marketing and communications, you need to attend the Feb. 13 luncheon.

Lisa Lewins, associate professor of business administration at Lakeland Community College, will show how to create and implement successful marketing plans with your staff by starting with the six P’s of service marketing (product, price, place, promotion, people and presentation).

Lewins will provide practical examples and facilitate group discussions to assist you in moving quickly through marketing basics. She will focus on developing SWOT analysis, timelines and administration management as the key components of marketing.

“We’re delighted to have Ms. Lewins speak,” said Dick Fraser, president of Lake Communicators. “This will be a very educational and informative marketing program for all of our members.”

 

Lewins has worked in sales, marketing and management since 1984. She has been involved in the banking industry, retail, pharmaceuticals, distribution and manufacturing and with nonprofit organizations. She has worked for companies such as Progressive Insurance and Sherwin Williams.

As 2008 begins, the Lake Communicators board is gearing up with new opportunities and numerous educational luncheon speakers, workshops and networking events.

president; Kathie Purmal, executive director of the Lake County Historical Society in Painesville Township as treasurer; and Jessica Peterson, special events/annual giving coordinator for the Lake Hospital Foundation, as secretary.

Other board members include John Venen, marketing manager for Lake Metroparks; Diana Lewis, marketing assistant at Great Lakes Mall; Barbara Wiget, director of resource development at Big Brothers Big Sisters; and Laura Freeman, editor of the Lake County Business Journal.

Last month’s Lake Communicators luncheon, the first held at our new location at Pine Ridge Country Club, was very well attended.

Many new faces were in the crowd for the media panel on the do’s and don’ts of public relations. The panel included Darren Toms, director of news programming for Clear Channel Cleveland; Brooke Willis, managing editor of Northern Ohio Live magazine; and Margaret Daykin, planning producer for Fox-8 News in the Morning.

John Venen moderated the discussion which addressed topics such as effective electronic communications, the importance of timing, media pet peeves and how they prefer to receive information. Panel members answered questions at the end of the discussion.

As a way for corporations, small business owners, nonprofits, entrepreneurs and communications professionals to learn new strategies and re-energize marketing communications programs, Lake Communicators will hold its second annual Marketing Communications Workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 12 at Renaissance Quail Hollow Resort in Concord Township. The workshop is $40 and includes breakfast, lunch and networking.

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect to knowledgeable and distinguished speakers in order to gain practical advice on how to advance business goals through proven marketing methods and inside track strategies.

Workshop presenters include Marvin Montgomery, motivational speaker and sales training specialist; Kordell Norton, author, speaker and consultant; and Judee Nerren, publisher and editor of The Women’s Journal in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties.

“We’re so excited about this year’s line up of presenters. All three are nationally recognized experts in their respective fields and will bring so many valuable marketing tips to the table,” said Judy Cerne, president & CEO of McKinney

 

Advertising & Public Relations. Cerne, who is theLake Communicators vice president, will moderate the 2008 workshop. She participated as a presenter at last year’s marketing workshop.

Marvin Montgomery will discuss how “Preparation and Practice is the Key to Sales Success.” He has assisted hundreds of organizations in improving productivity.

Kordell Norton’s presentation, “Marketing with E’s: The 5 Elements of Marketing with Pizzazz,” will focus on communicating the value of a company more powerfully and the methods to improve a customer’s experience that marketers’ don’t want you to know.

Norton is the author of several high-energy, hardhitting books on marketing including, Throwing Gas on the Fire–Creating Drastic Change in Sales and Marketing and the soon to be published Customer Insights–A Sales Guide for Discovering the Customer’s Problems, Passions and Priorities.

Judee Nerren, publisher and editor of The Women’s Journal in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, is completely in-tune with the brand experience female consumer are looking for and knows their purchasing process. She will provide indepth insight into what mediums women use and how they use them as well as how you can use those same mediums to reach these women in her presentation, “Capture the Women’s Market.”

Brad Colbow is a freelance graphic designer specializing in Web sites and online marketing.

Before starting Colbow Design in August he served as lead designer for DigitalDay Creative Group in Peninsula Ohio, where he designed Web sites and online promotions for clients such as Smucker’s, Jif, Rubbermaid and Mars Inc.

His hobbies and career overlap on his blog where he writes about Web design, illustration and what’s going on in Northeast Ohio’s tech community.

Kolman Rosenberg is the owner of Kolman Rosenberg Photography in Mentor. After 40 plus years of freelance photography, primarily in the areas of fine art and photojournalism, he opened his business on a more full-time basis. He recently retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs where he worked nationwide as an internal consultant and trainer in the areas of performance improvement and leadership development.

Along with exhibiting his photography, Kolman enjoys golf and spending time with his wife, daughter and son-in-law, and two grandchildren. He also continues to provide performance improvement and leadership development services to private and public organizations.
