Richard Kohn, president of The Talent Group, will be the featured speaker at Lake Communicators August breakfast meeting. His topic will be “Hiring Professional Talent for your Next TV or Print Campaign.”

Kohn has worked in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years. As an assistant commercial voice-over agent for J. Michael Bloom and Associates, he has worked with

talent such as James Earl Jones, Kathleen Turner and Wesley Snipes.

As the director of program development for D.L. Taffner in both New York and Los Angeles he was responsible for the development of one-hour dramas and half-hour sit-coms.

 

In 1992 he co-founded The Talent Group, Pennsylvania and Ohio’s largest SAG/AFTRA-franchised talent agency. Kohn has most recently worked again with D.L.

Taffner in the production of the American pilot of an Australian show, “The Panel.”

This morning presentation begins with registration at 7:45 a.m. and a breakfast buffet. The meeting will end at 9 a.m. The cost to members is $10; nonmembers $15. RSVPs due by Aug. 4.

Member Moments - Kathie Pohl & Dick Fraser

Kathie Pohl has worked in advertising, broadcasting and marketing communications for 30 years. In the 1970s while working at Houston radio station KODA, she became its first woman announcer.

After returning to Cleveland in the 1980s, she worked for WDOK and became that station’s first woman announcer. She worked for several ad agencies before starting her own marketing communications firm in 1987.

She was hired by the city of Mentor as its first public information officer in 1989 and continues to oversee the city’s communications program including the award-winning Mentor Channel.

Kathie is a former trustee of the Lake County Historical Society and past president of Lake Communicators. She is also a founding member of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors and is serving her second year as president.

As a Lake County native, Kathie has a keen interest in local history. In 1997, she directed the production of the history book, “Mentor: The First 200 Years” and served as a lead writer.

When she’s not writing, she’s gardening or swimming or enjoying a glass of merlot with the WIM’s (a secret society of sorts).

 

Dick Fraser is owner and president of Fraser Video Productions in Painesville Township. FVP creates videos and TV commercials for businesses, the medical profession and corporations, and has received numerous awards.

Prior to establishing FVP, Dick was director of operations for Nationwide Cable and director of broadcasting for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sports Exchange and Nationwide Advertising Services.

Dick was program director for Cleveland-area radio stations, including 3WE (now WTAM), WERE and WBKC and freelanced for CBS Radio Network.

Dick performed in the musical ensemble The Common Bond for more than a decade. He wrote the lyrics for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ fight song and the song, “We’re With You Crusaders,” for the former Cleveland Crusaders Hockey Club.

He serves on the Metro board of the Lake County YMCA and has been part of the United Way of Lake County campaign committee as video chair for the past six years.

Dick earned a bachelor of science degree in telecommunications from Kent State University. He lives in Mentor with his wife Janice. They have two grown children - Brett, who is producer/director at Fraser Video Productions, and Amy, who is in advertising in Atlanta, Ga.

Our mentoring program wants YOU!

Our new mentoring program is underway, comprised of a cadre of members who are

offering their skills and experience to help other members. More mentors are needed, so please consider joining the team.

Our mentors will provide their special skills, knowledge and experience to other, less-experienced members who seek counsel and direction.

The program will include a published list of mentors with specific professional skills and expertise noted.

 

Members wishing to discuss a communication issue may contact a mentor for a private, one-on-one consultation. Note that this is an informal program and is not intended to replace commercial professional services.

Member News

Member Julia Hazen, now Julia Schick, married David Schick June 23 at Willoughby Hills United Methodist Church. The newlyweds honeymooned on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Julia works as the outreach specialist at Laketran.

David is a producer of video advertising at Fitness Quest in Canton. Julia and David reside in Lyndhurst with their beagle, Charlie, and black Labrador, Ella. She can be reached via her new e-mail at jschick@laketran.com.

Jessica Raymond married Brian Petersen July 8. The couple honeymooned for a week in a cabana on Treasure Island along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

The trip included a two-day visit to Disney. Jessica and Brian, who have known each other since high school, are staying with Mom Petersen in Perry while hunting for a place of their own.

Members Dick Fraser and Brett Fraser of Fraser Video Productions have a new Web site. The site is easy to navigate, with brief and to-the-point explanations of the company’s capabilities, accomplishments and history. Take a look at the newly designed site at www.fraservideo.com.

Alex Roys, a designer at Lakenetwork LLC, designed the site. Lakenetwork is a Web site development company owned by member Jerie Green. Lakenetwork offers complete Web site services including development, graphic design, photography, copy writing and editing.

Other services include programming, hosting and tech support, e-commerce, database integration, marketing, e-mail marketing, search engine optimization, search engine submission, pay-per-click, stats tracking, FTP setup, and more.

Monthly Meetings
Membership meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at the Comfort Inn & Conference Center, 7701 Reynolds Road, just south of Rt. 2. Lunch meetings are held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include networking and a half hour program. Breakfast meetings are held from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Guests are always welcome.

Advance reservations are required by replying to Shirley Wolfe's e-mail at wolfeshirley@yahoo.com or by calling Diana Lewis at (440) 255-8932 by the Friday prior to the meeting. You may send a substitute; no-shows will be billed. Members $10, guests $15.
